Registering your vehicle renewals with the Strafford Town Clerk

Frequently Asked Questions:
What do I need to RENEW my registration?

If you choose to renew your registrations in person at the Town Clerk's Office, you please supply one of the following:
The expiring registration you want to renew

OR
The Registration Renewal letter you received in the mail (or by email)

If you choose to renew your registrations online, you must have your PIN number (from your renewal letter)
OR
The plate #, and the last 4 digits of the vehicle VIN #, along with your email address. 

To renew your registrations online, go to the home page on this site and click on the RED button at the top of the page.

If you choose to renew your registrations by mail, please send us the Registration Renewal letter we sent you, (or a copy of the email we sent you) along with one check made out to the "Strafford Town Clerk" - for the total of your transaction.

 


What do I need to TRANSFER PLATES to a newly purchased vehicle?

Please note: Transfers must be done in person at the Town Clerk's office.

For vehicles 2000 and newer:
You need to supply the current registration from your prior vehicle.  This must be the ORIGINAL registration.  We cannot accept copies.*

AND
the blue Title Application form you received from your NH dealer
OR
the original Title if this is a private sale, or a vehicle purchased out of state.

*  If you do not have the current original registration, the Town Clerk must print a certified copy for a cost of $17.50.

For vehicles 1999 and older:

The State of NH requires Vin # verification, which can be supplied in one of three ways:
A prior NH registration for the vehicle
OR
A "Verification of Vehicle Identification form (TDMV 19A)
OR
a prior Title (from any state)

A Bill of Sale also needs to be supplied

Note:  A blue "Verification of Vehicle Identification form (TDMV 19A) can be obtained from the Town Clerk or any Motor Vehicle office, or go to the "Forms and Applications" section on this site.

 


NEW PLATES (not transfering)

Please note: New vehicles must be registered in person at the Town Clerk's office.

Vehicles 2000 and newer
You will need to supply the following:

The Title Application (blue form) you received from your NH dealer (on the bottom in RED it will say "Town Clerk's Copy)
OR
The original Title if the car was purchased from a private sale or a dealer outside of NH

Vehicles 1999 and older
You will need to supply the following:

The State of NH requires Vin # verification, which can be supplied in one of three ways:
A bill of sale

AND one of the following:

A copy of the seller's prior NH registration
OR
A Verification of Vehicle Identification form (TDMV 19A)
OR
a prior Title from any State
