FEMA FLOOD MAPS
The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency has issued preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) and where applicable, Flood Insurance Studies (FIS), for our area, reflecting updated hazard determinations within Strafford County. These flood hazard determinations may include the addition or modification of Base Flood Elevations, base flood depths, Special Flood Hazard Area boundaries or zone designations (these are areas that would be inundated by the base, or one percent annual chance, of flood), or the location of the regulatory floodway. These flood hazard determinations are the basis for the floodplain management measures that our community has adopted in order to remain qualified for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program. Before the updated determinations are finalized, there is a 90-day period provided for appeals. FEMA has posted digital copies of these revised FIRM and FIS report materials to the following website: FEMA Maps/. During this period, any person who believes that their property rights will be adversely affected by the flood hazard designations may appeal to the town, who would be responsible for contacting FEMA. Please note: the sole basis for such appeals is the possession of knowledge or information that the proposed flood hazard determinations are scientifically or technically incorrect. The appeal data must be submitted with your appeal. Only appeals supported by scientific data can be considered. The appeal period will close on April 1, 2026. Parts of Strafford are included on FEMA FIRM map panels 155, 160, 165, 170, 190, 195, 255, 260, and 280.
